Know what you’re looking for and what truly gives a painting its value.

Commissioning a portrait or acquiring original art isn’t something most people do every day, yet living with a unique piece is transformative. In a world of uniformity, authentic art offers a kind of visual recalibration a moment of stillness, a form of “yoga for the eyes.” But what defines a meaningful work? For some, it’s a drawing made by their children; for others, only an original Picasso will do. Most of us, however, discover the real magic somewhere in between.
The art world is full of hidden gems: painters with remarkable skill who remain outside the spotlight, often held back by modesty or an overly critical inner voice. Their work appears briefly online before slipping back into obscurity. Not because it lacks merit, but because it lacks visibility. And while that may be unfortunate for them, it presents an opportunity for you: the chance to find distinctive, attainable, and truly original art.

FIND AN ARTIST WHO SPEAKS YOUR VISUAL LANGUAGE
Authenticity defines the
relevance of a work.

While many creatives are versatile, no artist can fulfil every possible request. Each has a distinct hand, a preferred palette, and materials that feel intrinsic to their practice. As a collector, recognising this increases the likelihood of a seamless collaboration and ensures the artist can create at their highest level. With so many remarkable painters worldwide, there will always be several whose sensibility aligns closely with your own. Pro tip: once you’ve chosen, give the artist room to breathe; it strengthens the authenticity of the final work.
Whether you’re seeking a bold abstract piece for your home or a quiet landscape for your office, there is an artist whose voice resonates with your aesthetic. Perhaps that’s me, perhaps not. You can explore examples of my work in the catalogue, which is updated regularly. Though my practice resists easy categorisation, the collection as a whole may evoke something in you: joy, stillness, emotion or something in between. That sense of narrative undercurrent is what I strive for in each piece. Some stories reveal themselves more clearly through paint than through words.

there would be no reason to paint.”
ACQUIRING ART DIRECTLY FROM THE ARTIST
Exclusive works without gallery mediation.

I believe in the value of direct dialogue between artist and collector. When both parties take the time to understand one another, a foundation emerges for creating work with depth, resonance, and genuine impact. For that reason, I prefer offering my pieces directly, without gallery involvement. It allows collectors to acquire original work at a fair price, without the 40–60% commission that typically accompanies traditional representation.
Today’s landscape offers remarkable opportunities: artists can be discovered online just as meaningfully as in museums or galleries. The age in which great art could only be found by walking through a white-walled space is behind us, thankfully so. Begin your search beyond the expected paths and explore the rich diversity of unique contemporary work available.
And don’t hesitate to reach out directly; an open conversation benefits both artist and collector. Trust your own instincts as you make your selections. That personal intuition is what leads you to pieces that stand apart, carry lasting value, and enrich your space in a way mass-produced art never can.

TAX & BUSINESS CONSIDERATIONS WHEN PURCHASING ART
Acquiring art for your company: culturally enriching and potentially tax-efficient.

An increasing number of businesses invest in art. Not only because it enhances the workplace and communicates a story to clients and employees, but also because, in some cases the acquisition can offer financial or tax-related advantages. In many countries, artwork purchased for use within a company space may be treated as a business asset and can, under certain conditions, be depreciated.
Please note that tax rules differ significantly per country and situation. Rates and regulations, including VAT or sales tax, vary depending on whether the work is purchased directly from the artist or through a gallery. For accurate guidance, always consult your accountant or tax advisor.
Art can strengthen a company’s identity, elevate its environment and become a meaningful asset on the balance sheet, provided the financial treatment is assessed correctly.
