The work of Amrita Sher-Gil served as the starting point. In her paintings, she explored themes such as identity, freedom, connection and love. These themes remain relevant today and also recur throughout my own work.

Connection & intimacy
For the art route, I selected a number of paintings in which people relate to their surroundings and to one another in different ways. Some emphasise connection and intimacy, while others focus on distance, longing or the desire to break free. Everyday situations and recognisable images take on a symbolic meaning.

Displayed in shop windows
Rather than being shown in the familiar setting of a museum or gallery, the works were displayed in shop windows and public locations throughout the city. This led to unexpected encounters between art, shoppers and everyday life, fitting for a route that brought together looking, walking and discovering.
The art route ran from 1 August to 20 September 2026 and was made possible by the Drents Museum and Vaart in Assen.
